Alternative Archaeologies (Linocut, Sep 2024)

Alternative Archaelogies is an attempt to question the official historical narrative presented to us. Its inspired by Golconda Fort, India which was closed for decades under the British and we have to rely on colonial narratives of what it used to be. Its a symbol for all historical lies draped on top of architecture, and modernity itself is an attempt at erasure.

Fighting the food war (Linocut, June 2021)

Our food systems have been weaponized against us. Imperialism and capitalism demand that food be grown as a commodity, causing massive food shortage and wastage at the same time in different parts of the world.
The print here is an onion flower - when onions flowers, they are said to "bolt", another word for revolt. Onions bolt when they realize that the conditions are no longer right for their survival, and they must flower to continue their existence as a species. The bolting onion is a metaphor for creatively resisting the war on foods that are supposed to nourish us.

Inspired by fatigue and the desire to dissolve into the back room with books and a lamp, and the Urdu poem
Humaara dil to Mukammal Sukoon chahta hai
Ye zamaana hai jo humse junoon chaahta hai

But this world demands that we be passionate)

Custodian of the Opia (Linocut; February 2023)

From the Opium war to the Opioid crises, entire populations have been decimated in the name of freedom and democracy. In the Opium war, the Indian farmers were forced to grow Opium and the Chinese were forced to buy it, while the Chinese government urgently appealed the British merchants to stop selling Opium to the Chinese people, irony being that Opium sale was illegal in Britain. The British claimed that they were defending freedom of the market.
Today, America is in the midst of another manufactured Opioid crises, where farmers in Afghanistan were forced to grow Poppies, as pharmaceutical companies force Opioids into American neighbourhoods and consulting companies estimate the addiction rate hopefully.

Soil Charmers (Linocut; November 2021)

The 2020–2021 Indian farmers' protest was against three farm acts that were passed by the Parliament of India. Farmer unions called it the "anti-farmer laws" who said that it would leave farmers at the mercy of corporates in a time when farmer suicides were rampant due to impossible incomes. Despite India being largely self-sufficient in foodgrain production and having welfare schemes, hunger and nutrition remain serious issues. The farmers fought back and got the acts temporarily overturned, but as the Indian government is being pushed by the West to "go big", small farmers have big battles to fight.
This print is a homage to all farmers.

We were never apart (Risograph; March 2024) - Limited prints

This is a collection of Riso prints that have the Hindu text of Ramayan, written in the Urdu script superimposed with the tree of life. Since the British colonial era, the Hindu-Muslim divide in India has been exploited by the ruling powers (till the present day government). Even though Hindi and Urdu are practically the same language, which differences in vocabulary, they have been divided on religious lines. By showing the Ramayan written in Urdu, the print attempts to remind a divided people of their collective shared and communal histories.
